Best accommodations in Kauai

Wondering where is the best place to stay in Kauai? This blog post is your answer! Kauai has quickly become our favorite of the three Hawaiian islands we had the chance to visit. I truly do feel like I left a part of my heart there. Kauai is a relatively small island, which probably played a huge part in why I loved it so much; if you rent a car, it’s very fast and easy to get from one part of the island to the other. Choosing the best resort in Kauai will highly depend on the exact features of accommodation you’re looking for during your stay on Kauai. Also, it’s worth mentioning that Kauai is not the cheapest place to visit, so keep that in mind. That being said, it will definitely still be a vacation to remember. So, without further ado, here is my list of the best accommodations in Kauai, in no particular order.

Whatever you need out of your trip, this list will show you where to stay in Kauai. Just take a look at all of them and choose the one that feels best for you. On the Internet, you’ll find endless lists of options, so I’m here to save you time with this list of the 10 best hotel accommodations in Kauai so that your next vacation will be relaxing and hassle-free.

Overview of the 10 Best Accommodations in Kauai

Below, I have provided an overview of all the top hotels in Kauai from this list. I’m sure you’ll be able to find the one that meets your needs!

Kauai has three main areas:

The North Shore

  • Featuring amazing mountain scenery
  • More rain and dangerous waves in the winter
  • Good location for those wanting to hike the Napali Coast

The South Shore

  • Convenient for boat and helicopter tours and visiting Waimea Canyon
  • Calmer ocean waters in the winter
  • More accommodation options

The Royal Coconut Coast (Eastern Shore)

  • Centrally located in the middle of the island, so, if you want to try it all, it’s probably the best option
  • Busiest part of the island—more road traffic, people, shops, and restaurants
  • Many more budget accommodations
  • Closer to cultural sites

Depending on the length of your stay, you could simply divide your time on Kauai into two blocks, staying on one part for a while and on another part for the rest of the time. As I mentioned, however, that’s not really necessary, because the island is pretty small, and you can easily hit all of your desired activities by taking little day trips. Otherwise, you can waste your precious time dragging around your luggage with your family, checking in and out as you shift from hotel to hotel.

This resort is located on Kauai’s South Shore, at Poipu Beach. The location is ideal for visiting the Waimea Canyon or if you’re planning on taking boat or helicopter tours. You can either spend the day relaxing on the beach or in one of the poolside bungalows, as well as eating in one of the five restaurants on sight or enjoying any of the numerous amounts of water and sport activities.

Definitely try to get an ocean-view suite, as seeing how the sun is rising above the water will make waking up early more than worth it every day.

Heading next to the North Shore of Kauai, we find the Cliffs at Princeville.

I would suggest you stay on this side of the island if you prefer a more relaxed and quiet stay. Also, if you like snorkeling and would love to see a turtle or two during your stay, it would be better option rather than the South Shore.

The hotel features two swimming pools, a kids pool, and two hot tubs. On top of that, every room has its own balcony and a fully equipped kitchen.

The Cliffs is a great location to choose if you are seeking a more active holiday. There are two tennis courts, basketball court, pickleball, and two shuffleboard courts; bike rental is also available.
